Quality assurance.
Prior to award of contracts, the plant which manufactures the evaporated milk shall be approved by the Dairy Grading Branch, Dairy Division, Agricultural Marketing Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. When required in the solicitation, contract, or purchase order, the Dairy Grading Branch will determine the quality of the evaporated milk. The evaporated milk shall be examined or analyzed in accordance with applicable provisions in the CID, and when applicable, the United States Standards for Condition of Food Containers currently in effect on the date of the solicitation.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking.
The evaporated milk shall be preserved, packaged, packed, labeled, and case marked in accor- dance with good commercial practice. Primary containers shall be packed in corrugated fiberboard shipping containers or corrugated fiberboard trays with plastic shrink wrap that will provide evaporated milk protection against loss and damage during multiple shipment, han- dling, and storage. Commercial labeling and packaging, as may be augmented by the solicita- tion, contract, or purchase order, shall be acceptable. Shipping containers shall comply with the National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification, as applicable.
Notes.
Purchasers shall specify:
- Labeling requirements, if different from commercial markings.
- Type of evaporated milk.
- If USDA is to perform an acceptance inspection.
- If USDA is to perform a condition of container inspection.
- Can and container pack sizes:
5 fluid ounces (147.87 mL) per can, packed 48 cans per case.
5 fluid ounces (147.87 mL) per can, packed 96 cans per case. l2 fluid ounces (354.88 mL) per can, packed 48 cans per case.
97 fluid ounces (2.87 L) per can, packed 6 cans per case.
