Quality assurance.
The butter shall be manufactured in a plant approved by the Dairy Grading Section, Dairy Grading and Standardization Branch, Agricultural Marketing Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), prior to submission of offer. Approved plants must satisfactorily meet the requirements contained in the General Specifications for Approved Dairy Plants and Standards for Grades of Dairy Products. The product shall be examined and tested in accordance with the applicable United States Standards for Grades of Butter. When requested in the contract or purchase order, the containers shall be examined in accordance with the United States Standards for Condition of Food Containers currently in effect on the date of solicitation, and in accordance with the requirements in the applicable regulations.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking.
The butter shall be preserved, packaged, packed, and case marked in accordance with good commercial practice. Commercial labeling and packaging, as may be augmented by the contract or purchase order, shall he acceptable. Shipping containers shall comply with National Motor Freight Classification or Uniform Freight Classification, as applicable.
Notes.
Purchasers shall specify:
- The type, grade, and style of product desired.
- The pack and packaging size.
Purchasers may specify:
- Labeling requirements if different from normal commercial practice.
- Container sizes and requirements if butter is to be packaged in metal containers.
- If USDA is to perform a Condition of Food Containers inspection.
- Product characteristics which may differ from commercial characteristics but do not affect U.S. Grade (such as percent fat and moisture).
- If the butter is to be delivered frozen.
